POTTON CEMETERY

REGULATIONS AND CHARGES

Charges fixed under the Local Authorities’ Cemeteries Order 1974 (No.628)
(Local Government Act 1972)

Resident of Potton
The charges apply where the person to be interred or in respect of whom the right is granted
is, or immediately before his death was, an inhabitant of the town of Potton, or in the case of
a still-born child, where at least one of the parents were inhabitants of Potton.

Non resident of Potton
In all other cases, the charges will be trebled, except where the Exclusive Right of Burial in
the grave in question was purchased at the single fee and the person to be buried is the
purchaser or their heir or partner.

Part 1 – Exclusive Right of Burial in Earthen Graves
For the Purchase of the Exclusive Right of Burial for a period of 100 years:-

• An earthen grave  8 feet by 4 feet                                                            £68.00          

• An earthen grave  8 feet by 8 feet                                                            £126.00

• An earthen grave 2 feet x 2 feet (for cremated remains)                     £53.00           

• A still-born child, or of a child under one month.                                   £13.00

•  A child between one month and twelve years old.                              £23.00           

• A person over the age of twelve.£105.00

• For the interment of cremated remains.                                                   £42.00

• For the scattering of ashes of cremated remains                                   £14.00

Part 3 – Monuments, Gravestones, Tablets and Monumental Inscriptions:

Section “H” is currently in use for internments.

On Section “H” there can only be either a headstone with or without a footstone, or a single
vase at the head of the grave.

There may also be placed a footstone not exceeding 1’6” in depth in front of the headstone
on a burial plot, and 6”in depth on a cremated remains plot.

All items placed on the grave must be within the area allowed for the headstone and additional footstone being 3’ deep 4’ wide and 4’6” in height on a burial plot and

2’ deep 2’wide and 2.6” in height on a cremated remains plot

Other monuments are not allowed on Section H.

Charges for Monuments

Burial Plot

• A headstone, with or without a footstone, not over 4’6” high
  not over 4’ wide                                                                                             £16.00

Cremated Remains Plot                                                                                   

• A headstone with or without a footstone not over 2’6”high
  not over 2’ wide.                                                                                             £16.00        

Burial and Cremated Remains Plots

• A footstone, not exceeding 1 foot 6 inches in height                              £11.00

• A monument in the form of a vase, with inscription                                £11.00

• A flat stone occupying a space not exceeding 2’ by 2’
  flush with the ground                                                                                    £16.00           

• First Inscription included

• Additional inscription.                                                                                    £9.00

Fees for searches of Register Books and copies

• For every search - for each year covered                                                   £2.00

• Every certified copy of an entry in the Register                                         £3.00

• For the use of the Cemetery Chapel                                                           £38.00
  (Chapel fees are not included in the triple fee ruling)
