Welcome to Potton Town
Potton is a thriving town of approximately 5000 residents in the heart of rural Bedfordshire. The Town has an historic Georgian Market Square which is the heart of the Town. There are many busy local shops in and around the Square including a florist, food store, newsagent, hairdressers, estate agents, butchers, chinese take away, fish and chip shop, traditional hardware shop, chemist, veterinary surgery, hotel, bakery, post office and dental surgery, two small supermarkets, a café, a public house and a car showroom as well as several small businesses. In the centre stands the Clock House in which are located the Town Library and the Council Chamber all watched over by the Town Clock. There are also many small businesses situated in and around the town providing local employment.

Potton is a friendly town with strong artistic community. There are several halls for hire. There are many theatre groups and choirs, sports clubs, community groups and social organisations for both young and old. Details are to be found on the menu under Local Organisations.

Potton Clock Tower   The Town celebrates every Christmas with a switching on of the Christmas Lights Ceremony and the Market Square is a dazzle of lights for the festive season. There are many other activities and celebrations throughout the year and details can be found on the menu under Local Events.

St Mary’s Church in Hatley Road dates back to 1094AD. There is a Baptist Church in Horslow Street and a Salvation Army Chapel in Chapel Street and the Potton Vineyard Church meet at various venues around the town.

Potton Town Council consists of fifteen Councillors who meet the first Tuesday of every month except August. There is a Finance and General Purposes Committee which meets monthly, a Planning Committee which meets fortnightly. Burials Committee, Playing Fields and Allotments Committee, Buildings and Facilities Committee and Traffic Committees which all meet as required, usually quarterly.

The Town Council has a representative on the board of Governors for Potton Lower School and a representative trustee on board of Potton Consolidated Charities. There is a volunteer tree representative to give advice on care of the many trees that are managed by the Council. The Council also has close links and meets regularly with the local Police Community Beat Manager.

Potton Town Council is responsible for the management of the Community Centre in Brook End, The Pavilion at Mill Lane, the Public Conveniences in Brook End, the allotments at Everton Road, the Cemetery on Sandy Road, the play areas and recreational fields at Mill Lane and the Henry Smith Playing Fields and the Car Park at Brook End.
